Escobar
is everything a great college professor should be; he covered the
course material thoroughly, and presented information in an interesting
way that made it relevant to students. Friendly, helpful, and
accessible--he never made me feel stupid when I raised my hand to make
a comment or to ask a question. He used class time extremely
effectively, from the first minute until the last. Professional without
being strict; he earned the respect of students, he didn't demand it. I
had soccer class right before and I appreciated that I could quietly
nibble at my sandwich while listening to the lecture without the fear
of being bitched at. Escobar never had to ask students to pay attention
(an annoying trait of other teachers) because his passion and teaching
style compelled the whole class. Course outline as well as grading
policy are very clear. I usually dislike when class attendance is a
part of the grade, but Escobar's class was so enjoyable and informative
that I didn't WANT to miss this class! Escobar is truly an asset to
Lane Community College. |

is very knowledgeable about the subject and actually enjoys teaching
it. He makes it easy to learn, but expects us to put in the effort. He
isn't being way too hard on anyone, and he sure isn't handing out As
just for showing up. |

taught and all the resources he used, I was able to understand what he
was teaching; even with complex topics. He did not force his opinion on
us. His teaching methods created a means to see things from several
different perspectives. I was grateful to make my own opinion and to

I did
like the videos and the other media, the book was a bit dry and hard to
follow at times for me, so the videos and media helped me keep up.
Also, I liked the day we got to use the voting clickers - I think that
is definitley an innovative way to teach the class. |

enjoy history greatly, however the random online deadlines and
constantly changing things on moodle made it extremely difficult to
carry this class requirements while holding a job and any other
academic classes. |

classes with Mr. Escobar. I liked that Mr. Escobar varied his teaching
methods, (IE: Videos, Sound Clips and Lectures with Power Point). Also,
being able to review and take the quizes multiple times helped me learn

typically enjoys history classes, but Joe made the class entertaining

up with our own opinions. I think the forums are a great idea to get
students to participate and learn what they are being taught. I would
recommend this class to anyone who wants to take a history course. |

anonymous quiz day was awesome! I wished there was more time or more
days to do stuff with those. The time in class was excellent! the
visuals, songs, etc did a lot to get the feelings of the times across.
Which I think is just as important as the information itself. I have
mixed feelings about the forums; on one hand I got a lot of good
information from them, but on the other, sometimes it just felt like
one more thing to do. . .Overall Joe is an amazing teacher and works
really hard to get history across as a fun and relevant subject! |

completing work via an alternative method to handwriting appeared
daunting, but in the end it proved beneficial. I believe it enables one
