Loved the video clips-it was awesome hearing from people who lived during that the different time periods and getting real emotion. Not to mention some of the more graphic images helped feel like you were there, not just reading about it years later! |

| 1 | I liked the use of the video clips to make abstract concepts like war and racial discontent real and come alive in the voices of the people who experienced them. I also liked that the instructor pointed out the ways that decisions (good and bad) shaped the events that followed them; for example, the land division that occured at the end of WWI set the stage for WWII. |

| 1 | I've got to be honest here, I didn't get the world's most phenomenal grade in this class, but that's on me. Joe doesn't waste your time, and I enjoyed this class more than I have EVER enjoyed history before. During the lecture classes, Joe talks, shows video clips, political cartoons, and PROJECTS THE NOTES. All you have to do is write them. He expects you to think for yourself! Don't blow off the forums, like I mistakenly did.... that was really stupid. Utilize the pre-midterm and pre-final, you will get a LOT out of them, I promise! Hands down, my favorite teacher EVER, along with Ann Kemmy(sp?) who teaches English here. I didn't just learn the material, I remember it!!!! |

| 1 | Joe Escober has a strong passion for teaching history and he covers all sides of the spectrum poll. :) To that, I still don't know where his political views lye because he's that good on teaching all the facts of all sides. Because it is a hybrid class, there is more involvement due to the in class and online participation but you definetely won't leave this class without learning something and at least something being interesting! |
| 1 | Joe is stinkin' hilarious and engaging. I really like the mixture of videos and lecture and I am sure that Joe is really fun to play trivial pursuit with; as long as he is on your team because he would wipe the walls with the opposition. Joe was very careful to stay on track and not allow the temptation of telling hilarious stories to persuade deviation--but, I wanted to hear more stories. I love when he did mention those small details that reminded me history is made by humans. |

| 1 | The best part about this class is Escobar\'s teaching methods. Being in a lot of history classes, I find myself being lectured to most of the time. He not only lectures but has a power point every day. As well, he provides movie clips that are fairly entertaining, as well as, pertinant to the subject matter. |
| 1 | The class was hybrid-based. I actually was not really interested in history, but the course strcture made me more encouraged to study the materials inside and outside the class. Especially, I thought that the online forum was really effective because I had to study and review the materials before I posted something. |

Though the class was definitely a challenge, the work load was completely manageable paired with the right amount of effort. The instructor always seemed to know the material extremely well and he seemed enthusiastic about it which helps. |

| 1 | I felt that the number of members in an online forum group was too many. I wanted to do with around 10 students, so I thought that I could have done more intense and deeper discussion. |
| 1 | I found that keeping up with the assigned reading from the text book was difficult at times. I understood the material from the text better, after the lecture from said issues/topics. Reading from the text first, left me asking questions through out the reading. Having a baseline idea of what to expect from each chapter, from the lectures, let the reading flow better, with less confusion. This class I felt required a fairly intimate understanding how the political process works before hand. learning how politics change over time, along with the specific issues based on these political understandings from the people in charge of making decisions, like the president, senators etc, wasn't fully understood until several weeks into the term. There was a lot of "back work" i found myself doing, in regards to understand political views and understanding, before I could really understand the class material, to be successful in this class. |

I thought i was continually posting in response to forum subjects, and then instead of engaging in discussions, i would just get 5 different i agree with your post... Also, this was a very time consuming class. This was my first semester back in 5 years, and did not expect quite the workload, would not recommend for returning students wanting an easy grade. I believe I will have an A in the class when it is all said and done, but it was not a "no brainer". |
| 1 | I think if the class met 3 times a week or if the 2 class sessions were a bit longer it would make a huge difference. I know it's a hybrid course so it needs to be partially online, but classes often felt rushed and there was never a moment where it felt like extra time couldn't be used. |
| 1 | I think narrowing down the reading would help because there is alot covered in the chapters and it can feel overwhleming and not stick in our brains as much. Maybe having main points to focus on or having a guide of which parts/topics we can just skim? |

| 1 | One thing that was very difficult for me was taking notes in the class. I found that the instructor flipped through the slides very fast and I could not always keep up with the note taking. |

| 1 | Sometimes it feels like the forums aren't really worth the time. The materials given can get overwhelming, although they are interesting. In conclusion, I think it might be helpful to narrow down what is wanted to be viewed and talked about in the forum (perhaps one or two questions rather than three). |
| 1 | Sometimes the instructor goes through the slides too fast and I'm not able to get all the notes written down. If he could slow down the switching of slides just a little bit that would be great. Also, a small review for the midterm would be nice. Maybe an optional review session like he has for the final. |

My genetics finals and quizzes were easier than these things. There is so much material to learn that I ended up memorizing the quizzes. Sometimes when a student would ask a question it wouldn't really get an answer, which I know, there was a timeline to follow. |

| 1 | The only concern I had was that sometimes the lighting in the classroom gave me a headache! It was very dim and made it kind of hard to focus at times. Overall, loved the course, instructor and lessons! |
