What did you like about the class?

Joe Escobar is a good speaker, and his enthusiasm as a teacher rubs off unto the student and you find yourself enjoying yourself as you learn.
I found it to be very informative.
The material
I really enjoyed this class, personally Escobar is a great professor! He keeps to his syllabus and does everything he says he will. This class was very involved in and out of the classroom. The learning experience was great because of how interactive this course was in class discussions and online forums.
I think Joe is really cool. Because he is trying to show us there are different bias in life that who ever publish or speech is only an opinion of themselves. It might not always be true, therefore we have to find out the backgrounds of the writers to have more understanding of in what kind of thoughts they had when they write about the subject.
I really enjoy Escobar's enthusiasm with history. He does a great job of teaching us in a well rounded way. I especially enjoy how he points out bias in the textbook, outside sources, and even his own opinions. He does a great job of keeping history interesting by tying to modern day consequences. The forums are also a great way to expand on certain conversations that come up in class. I like that we do this type of thinking outside of class time. It lets students take more time to get a clear understanding of their view and support it well. Honestly, I think Escobar is a great instructor and I have signed up for the next section of this course before even taking the final from this term. I wish I would have had a history teacher like this in my earlier education. He is great! Also, he makes a point to help if you ask for it. He helped us organize a study group and even came and answered questions for us. This was above and beyond my expectations for an instructor. RAD!

Enjoyed the videos and extra materials used during class and on-line. I found the information thought provoking and provided a broad spectrum of varying opinions. I learned more being exposed to different points of views from my fellow classmates, as well as, from reading and hearing the different points of views from the colonists, British, French, Native Americans, Black Americans, slaves, farmers, merchants, varying political parties etc. I see the history of our country as even more complicated now, and have a broader concept. Much of it made me sad. Great Class and Thank you

This course was outstanding. I am currently taking Western Civilization and US History. Joe Escobar's ability to teach and impart knowledge is amazing. I cannot think of a single time in class, where I was not interested in what he was saying, presenting, or playing (video). I believe this is due to both his knowledge of the subject matter and his ability to teach. He takes a no-nonsense approach and doesn't skirt relevant issues. He tackles them head on, in a matter that captivates the students' attention.
I enjoyed the instructors enthusiasm when it came to the class. I also liked his many different ways of teachings, including videos and lots of photos for students who learn better through images.
The instructor was a very good teacher and he knew everything the subject.
it made me see and think about history differently than i was taught in middle and high school.
I learned a lot more detail of history that I never learned in high school.
I liked how it involved a hybrid concept to the standard classroom structure. It required me to get involved in the online forums and helped me throughout the term. The video clips and extra pdf files were all worth my time in reading and listening to because it as relevant to each topic we would be on in class. Joe was to the point in his lectures and would only point out what we would need to know for the midterm and final.
The chapter quizzes each week. they helped refresh information
I have a hard time with history but loved the lectures. They were fun and not boring
I like that there is a portion of the class that is online. The instructor teaches in a way that keeps the students engaged but doesn't require everyone to vocally participate.
The material was engaging, and the online forums were helpful in thinking about and understanding it.

This was my first "hybrid" class I've taken at LCC. I didn't find it to be too different than a normal class. It was an easy transition from non-hybrid to hybrid. I liked the way the class was set up workload wise. It fit well with the rest of my schedule (12 credits total). I felt like I learned quite a lot. That required reading my textbook religiously, paying close attention to lecture while taking notes, and reviewing for exams.
Everything. I loved the teaching style with multiple forms of media used to express the material. Also, history is my favorite. It would be hard to be let down.
I think the online forums are a great learning and teaching method.
I enjoyed the teacher for this class I think that it really helped overall with the feel for it.

I think what I actually liked most was Professor Escobars genuine interest and knowledge about all of the topics! Instead of just reading us the slides, he would stop and discuss everything in an understandable and "normal" lingo instead of the confusing and boring way that the book addresses everything. Because the teacher actually cared about the subject, it made me care more and be more interested than I expected.

I appreciated how Joe brought in videos of other historians that were experts on the subject of that day. Also I appreciated the effort Joe made to show multiple sides of an issue.
I've always enjoyed taking history classes every since I was little. Professor Escobar made it easy to be engaged in class and I felt I was able to take a lot away from what we learned. Professor Escobar's enthusiasm made each class period interesting and enjoyable. I look forward to having him as my professor next term as well!
Information was presented in an accessible way and never seemed condescending. Instructor answered questions in a very accessible and friendly way. Overall one of my best college class experiences yet.
The class flow, and involvement the teacher used to involve the students.
The thing that I liked about this class is that Joe didn't just rely on the book to teach us. There were some times when the book had information that didn't seem quite right or the author expressed a strong opinion of theirs through the book and Joe would point that out.
I liked that the instructor was organized and communicated well. He made it clear what the expectations were, provided adequate time, and remained consistent in with deadlines. I enjoyed how he presented the information, the lectures where informative, moved along at an appropriate pace and incorporated information from a variety of sources, bringing history to the present day.

The teacher reminded me of my high school history teacher in a lot of ways. But he made learning very interesting and all the quizzes helped to learn more information and to help measure what I have learned and what I need to study more.

I believe Joe Escobar runs his class professionally, and there is no additions needed.
I understand this is a hybrid class, but it's a great assumption to make that everybody has a computer, let alone Internet access. I understand we can use the library on campus, and it's part of the learning process, but I resist the notion of society's increased dependence on the Internet. Not to mention the socioeconomic "standards" being set. (i.e. how do you survive without a cell phone?) Soon we'll begin losing our limbs due to atrophy and become pods in front of a screen....then monkeys will take over.
Too much information required to remember for mid-terms and finals. More quizzes would help retain knowledge instead of cramming everything in for a single exam.
I felt like this class was great, little help needed. Professor Escobar is good about communicating with his students after class or via email. He also keeps with the syllabus which helps as a great guideline, and is always up to date on Moodle.
Maybe a little bit longer class time would be great.
Sometimes I feel like there can be a lack of great debate in the forums. I'm not sure how Escobar could fix this problem. I have put a lot of effort into my posts, and generally there isn't any response to them in the forum. Perhaps if students were pushed a little harder, or graded more strictly on their forum posts they would try harder to engage with the other students posts.

ADD EXTRA CREDIT OPTIONS and make the forums less important.
The forums were kind of confusing. And I didn't know if I really liked how everyone had to reply to each other. If each person just had to make one post it would have been better.

Weeks 3 and 4 the forums were not graded half way through the week that freaked me out a little bit as it was too late to make more posts by the time any grading was done.
I really didnt like the online forum part of the class. hard to stay on top of it.
I would say maybe the inclusion of more I-clicker questions to keep some of the students including myself even more in tune to the subject matter.
Get rid of the forums. Waste of time in my opinion.
The only way I think this class could be improved would be to nix any bumps in the grades. Students earn their test scores. Anybody who does not succeed in this course has not tried. A top notch class!
I would have made the forums due on Thursday and Sunday instead of the Tuesday and Sunday. I would also have made the Midterm and Final not as large of a portion of the grade. Some students like myself have trouble testing and when I watch students who don't put in any effort in the Forums and other classwork because they can ace the midterm/final I feel as if i'm working my ass off to pass just because I do poorly on the test. Not because I don't put in an A effort in all my class work.
More class interactions and projects IN CLASS not just in online.
sometimes i personally would like more discussion opinions from the class to instructor
I would have liked to have more interaction in class to help learn the material other than lecture with different video clips and images.
The only suggestion that I have for this class is to provide a longer time period during lecture, giving students more time to take notes off of your slides
