| 1 | i went into this class with a reasonable knowledge about american history. i was expecting a bias teacher who would try and lead the class into whatever direction he thought was appropriate. i got the opposite. he was intentionally unclear about his political affiliation and i think that is crucial in a history teacher. i appreciated that he did not dictate the righteousness of american policy, but instead allowed students to decide for themselves how they view history. |

| 1 | this was an excellent course. i felt the layout of the class, with the online component, quizzes and forum was easy to follow and a very effective study guide. the instructor was crystal clear about all requirements, deadlines, and expectations. it's a very easy to get a good grade if you are reasonably attentive and just do the homework. being able to take the quizzes as many times as i wanted not only helped me pass, but i actually learned the material. i know that some have complained about the tests being hard but i found that to be untrue; between being able to repeat the quizzes (even after they are closed) and the review materials i knew everything i need to know. |

| 1 | i loved how joe was able to approach the class with facts about his class and statistics on who passed with what grades. i also enjoyed how engaging each day of class were and how much i got to learn. even though i am not doing so well in this class that is my own fault and irresponsibility, i still think that this is by far one of the best classes i have taken with probably the best professor i've had in a long time. thanks joe! |
| 1 | i liked the hybrid aspect of the class. also i loved that he didn't just talk during lectures. he had interactive powerpoints and videos to go along with the lectures, it was easy for me to follow along and stay interested. also my instructor was great. i missed a large chunk of class time due to a family emergency, he didn't dock me points and because of how greatly he does the lectures it was easy for me to borrow someones notes and catch up when i got back. |
| 1 | i really enjoyed the hybrid-style course. i'm a fan of online classes, but i also like lectures because it allows for different views/opinions to be shared and heard. also, i found the videos helpful in understanding the time periods. i think my favorite part of the class was the online forums. i like to hear from classmates and the forums are an easy way to share your thoughts. not many people are willing to raise their hand in lecture, so being able to voice one's opinion online is a great thing. |
| 1 | i like history, and enjoyed learning about this period. the text book gives a lot of information and the lectures helped provide more context for the assigned reading. i like lecture based classes, and thought that the lecture in this class was helpful and that the instructor did a good job emphasizing and highlighting aspects of the history that were very important and that might easily be overlooked by people unfamiliar with the past context. i also thought that the documentaries, videos, and other media always contributed to what we were learning and added more depth to the topics. the instructor seemed very prepared, maximized class time from beginning to end, but would still take time to get feedback or take questions from the class. the instructor frequently communicates with the class about course expectations (in class and via email) so it is easy to stay up to date about deadlines and requirements. instructor is also doing two optional reviews during final week in order to prep for the final and earlier in the term takes time to meet with students to personally review midterm tests which is very helpful. |

| 1 | by adding cattle-prods to each seat rigged to buttons at each chair and when 66% of the class doesn't want to hear a student keep talking the cattle-prod informs them that they're annoying the hell out of everyone. |

| 1 | improvements are very slight. it's hard to say but there's something that i'm not biggest fan of the forums. i think it should be required to talk about 2 of the 4 subjects instead of just one but to also have less information on the forums. instead of it taking an hour so learn about one of topics, it'd be better to provide less information and make us do two topics. |

| 1 | honestly, i thought it was a great class. there was a wide variety of resources and material and i really enjoyed the different ways to participate online. |
| 1 | the class felt rushed. the textbook that we read presented a lot of information on both foreign and domestic issues. i would have liked more time in class to go over it. however, since this is a hybrid class we only had 2 hours 40 min a week (80 min. each class). i think that the instructor manages the short amount of time well, but i would prefer somethings to be different. because it's a hybrid class we read extra material on forums and would post on it. i think that the material on the forums is helpful, and would not want to get rid of it; however, the posting that we do as a class is not often the most educational and i would trade reading and writing that for an extra 30 minutes in class. i actually enjoyed the forums; i just don't think they are an across the board substitute for learning the material when compared to what is done in class. i tried to write fast but at times (seemed to depend on the amount of material we were covering for the day) couldn't keep up with the pace at which we were going through slides. i think if there was more time for the class than the pace could be slowed slightly, more material could be covered, and a little more review could be incorporated into the course (which i would like since we covered a lot of material). |
