What did you like about the class?

I liked all the pictures of the places that you went with your family. It was cool to see what those historic sites look like now.
I like the fact that class time was used effectively; I don't feel any minute wasted in class. Material provided are diverse and valuable. I appreciate the effort of instructor to many sources of information to select and provide to the class. Not having to remember the dates is the nice thing as well; although I don't feel it effects the history I learned from this class.
I liked the visuals, he seemed really interested. His slides of him and his family were relevant.
Although history is a hard subject for many to find interest in, Joe made this class very interesting to me. His teaching style encouraged me to pay attention and it made the class more manageable. Joe is a great teacher and I would enjoy being in his class again.
I enjoyed the lectures which are very productive as long as you take extensive notes. It was fun to use a forum, it put learning to action, and kept you on point. The instructors obvious enthusiasm for history is contagious.
The same thing I like about all of Joe's classes- he's a great instructor. The format of the class really works well for me. I have no trouble understanding deadlines or work formats, everything is easily accessible, The material is presented in interesting ways and is never dry and boring. Joe's enthusiasm for history really makes the class feel worthwhile.
I enjoyed learning about American history and felt the professor did a great job teaching me the important people and moments
American history is cool
This class is great. One thing I like about this class is the instructor makes everything very clear.
I have taken History 201 previous to taking this class, with another instructor. I found this class much more interesting then 201. I enjoyed the video clips shown in class.
everything, plus the instructor reminds me of Bruce Cambels character from the tv show Burn Notice... in a good way haha
I like that he used various sources to teach the information, text, videos, forums, class discussions and bring relative current information to help us understand history. He was always available and consistent with appointments, moodle messaging and office hours. I liked that he was willing to invest time into individuals as well as class participation. Probably one of the best teachers I have had. He is also really good at making sure you know what is expected and literally tells you how to succeed.
The instructor was very knowledgeable and helped and encouraged me on more than one occasion, made a list so everyone knew what their highest grade possible could be, which I had never seen before, and was very understanding. I don't enjoy history, but he actually made in enjoyable and so I could understand it.
It was a fun class and the teacher was really cool and seemed like he cared about what he was teaching.
I liked that he related a lot of the material to our current world which helped me understand some of the things better. I also think his way of teaching was never boring and I was always interested in the material.
For this class I enjoyed how Dr. Escobar grabbed our attention with his political cartoons, videos, and historical truths. He encouraged me to think outside the box in the forums that he had us post in. Also I really enjoyed they way that he taught, because he really helped me to understand the material, by comparing then to events that are happening currently.
I liked how he explained that history itself can have an opinion made by historians themselves. Also how he effectively explained the idea of presentism and his overall enthusiasm.
You are encouraged to think for yourself instead of following along with the side you are used to taking.
The criticism of the bias opinions of things, and how it overall felt like an outside view looking into a situation, rather than a full "Amurican" bias view. If there were any biases, they were clarified.
i liked how enthusiastic the teacher was. He clearly knew what he was talking about and showed that he really cared about the subject which makes it easier for me to want to learn more about history.

Overall a very good class. Granted it can only cover so much in 10 weeks, and this is the longest period of history to be covered. Still, it was very informative and engaging.

Joe Escobar's history courses are run like well oiled machines. I appreciated the structure and his commitment to using class time effectively. Lectures were VERY well organized and informative.
I loved the professors enthusiasm, passion, and clear knowledge of what was being thought. As a student who isn't always pumped about history, Escobar's style, excitement, humor, and politically balanced style was great.
Liked that the course was engaging and interesting.

Loved this class! I believe I'll get the grade I projected I'd receive and Joe's teaching was the best I've had at Lane. I'd suggest this class to anyone. Also I'm a sucker for a solid slide show!
It was very well-paced and balanced, and the instructor took pains to promote critical thinking amongst the students.
I liked the hybrid aspect to this course because it is more flexible than a standard course.
I liked the fact that we didn't have to memorize dates.

Escobar was legitimately passionate about the course he took and made it fascinating to learn.
I simply enjoy history so just the class subject and material was enough for me to enjoy the class. I will also say that Mr. Escobar was always enthusiastic and made classes easy to follow and made material easy to learn. He also did a good job at attempting to connect things happening today to events in the past.

Escobar's enthusiasm in the classroom. You can clearly see the man is passionate about what he teaches, and it makes for a better learning environment.
I liked the small video clips we got to watch during class, it was not all not taking.

Remind people about moodle the first few weeks of class. Like the start and end of every class for a few weeks.
I like a lot of things about this class. Though I found the test is hard (midterm test). It would be nice if we do a review session for midterm like the one we are going to do for final, or if we don not have enough time, we can do some online review sessions. That would help boost the overall grade of the class and prepare students better for their exams.
PowerPoint slides should be available to those who attend class. I am a very visual person and a poor note taker. I attended every class.
The only thing that could be improved is the about of material that is expected for the students to cover and fully obtain. Because of the amount of information. I can say I will be leaving this class only remembering 75% of it. It is hard to ingest over 200 years of dry history in one term.
I was willing to put in the mandatory effort for solid grades, not all students seem to be aware of the action this class requires. Professor Escobar does a good job of explaining the course and what it takes for a good grade at the beginning of the term. I'm just not sure all of the students have the experience to comprehend the suggestions.
I think some of the other students get a bit confused with the forum grading, I don't, but that is literally the only complaint I have heard from anyone in any of Joe's classes.

Not really anything....Definitely don't make class periods longer than an hour and twenty minutes. It's a lot of information to retain.
I like the class the way it is it doesn't need to be improved.
I think we could've done more class activities like we did at the beginning, when we read an article and talked about it with a partner.
I feel that this class could be improved if he had more class time because in my other classes we have an hour and fifty minutes, but for his class we only have a short time of an hour and twenty minutes.

This is my second class with Mr Escobar, and I don't think there are any areas of improvement other than a longer lecture.
I think better study guides for the mid term/final. For me it was kind of difficult to find every single thing on the list. Especially the ones that were just the words that described the event, that kind of confused me.

I didn't really learn much due to the different learning style I have... besides the fact that I'm not really good with history of any sort.

I felt Joe Escobar attempted to sprinkle his stance on things often and when there was opposition to his stance he had a demeaning way of dealing with the 'opposition'. I feel his passion about certain topics derailed his lectures at times....not often...but sometimes.
I felt that no improvement is needed
I'm not the best test taker so maybe if there were more class assignments it would help.
Tests were very long. I like the idea of three shorter tests with less info.
I really can't think of anything.
I don't know about everybody, but personally I find the study lists to be difficult because there are so many terms and a lot are difficult to define.
