1 I liked this class
1 the videos and the slideshow presentations of the material
1 At first I was very nervous for this class. It was my first semi online course, though if you ever attend UO a lot of the material requires the constant use of Blackboard. Anyway, I found the class very interesting and fast pace, which to my liking. I had a bad experience last term with another history teacher at LCC who took things way to slow for my taste, and was easily distracted by the graphics of the t-shirts of his students. Needless to say, I dropped the class two days in because I wanted to flip a table. This is not the case with Escobar, he is a no nonsense guy, knows his stuff, and is more than willing to share what he knows. Be it through traditional lecture styling or through the use of videos and modern day examples. The modern day reference is a great way to put things into perspective, and it's a smart move and in my observation of the class, was well received. If anything, I would compare to Escobar to Benjamin Sanders (a UO professor of the English department), because like him, Escobar is passionate, connects with his students, and can be seen as intense.
1 The instructor was extremely organized.
1 I really liked how you can go to Joe and talk to him about the midterm and he goes over the stuff you need to know. He made the class fun and interesting and I would recommend taking him for history classes if you get the chance to.
1 Loved the online hybrid, but with in class time to really get the details.

1 I really enjoyed Escobar's lectures. Even with my limited attention span he was able to keep me entertained and focused.

1 I like the fact that Mr. Escobar has visited many places that he talks about. I also like the fact that Mr. Escobar has enthusiam about history.
1 I liked the fact that if you missed some slides the instructor put them on moodle so as every student had a chance to study it if they wanted.
1 The videos were a massive help, I like history, and if we can see it unfold before us just makes it all the better.

1 I liked how Mr. Escobar used movie clips, songs, pictures etc. along with the textbook and the notes in class to teach us about history. I made it more fun and interesting and easier to learn and remember. I also liked that we could take the quizzes on our own time.

1 Joe brings history alive, and he dispels a lot of historical myths that a lot of us labor under. This is real history, not the watered down pablum most history teachers give us. If you love history you will love his class. If you are not sure if history means anything to you, take the class, it will open your eyes to the reasons why history is so important to understanding the world around us today. Take the class, you will be the better for it.
1 The structure of the class, it was very organized.
1 What I enjoyed most about this class was the forums and the fact that he had video clips in the slides to help us understand whatever point he was making. The also helped us see the different points of view from others.

1 I enjoyed the class lectures for the most part. The professor was well prepared and organized with a PowerPoint presentation for each class and quite enthusiastic on the subject matters. However, though he presented the factual material well, I feel he put a conservative right-wing spin on his examples; to which I did not appreciate at all.
1 Mr. Escobar is very enthusiastic about history and it shows in his teaching.
1 I liked it a lot. Was very informative and Joe did a great job.
1 Joe has very interesting online forum discussions. He presents material not often discussed in my other history classes such as historical cartoons and historical comedy clips. This makes the online portion of the class easier to get into and respond thoughtfully.
1 The class was thought-out and prepared. I appreciate that.
1 Excellent course in which the richness of history is beautifully displayed. This course requires a lot of work but it is well worth it if you are willing to put forth the effort.
1 I liked how we used every last minue in class. We had plenty of time to go into great detail about that day's lesson. The videos also helped a lot. I'm more of a visual learner, and I loved getting four or five different points of view for each topic.
1 Joe is an amazing teacher, and I'm honestly sad I didn't pick up one of his classes sooner. He's passionate, knowledgeable, friendly and taught his class with vigor. He kept me engaged in history, something that hasn't ever happened to me in my entire schooling career.
1 The mixture of styles of teaching. Lecture, power point, pictures, videos, experiences, etc.
1 I liked the enthusiasm of him. I really enjoyed listening about history when I was in class.
1 i really liked the use of visuals, like the movies and the propaganda posters from the second world war.
1 I like the set up of the class how we read the chapters and then go over it in class with a power point. It helped me remember the material really well.
1 I thought this class was taught very clearly.The videos/songs were an extremely interesting part, they gave students a closer look at the time periods.
1 I liked the power point presentations for taking notes, that really helped, showing documentaries, instructor shared experiences from being at certain historical sites. He was well knowledgeable on the subjects and periods he taught in class.
1 The only thing I liked about this class was class discussions.
1 I really enjoyed the humorous historical videos and the sense of humor that was given when they where watched.
1 Instructor was fun and friendly, I enjoyed having him as a teacher. I would recommend him to others. Video clips were a nice change of pace, and the occasional comic really brightened up the class.

1 I very much enjoyed the various of teaching methods during the class. Between videos, wonderful pictures, and his enthusiasm I found this class very easy to stay interested in.
1 The teacher is enthusiastic -- his lectures are a pleasure to watch and take part in. Effectively uses different types of media to convey information about the history we are studying. The grading system is clear and fair and even so he is always available for questions after class and online. Overall he teaches a well formatted and fun course; effective and engaging.
1 I love Escobar's teaching style. He somehow crams a ton of knowledge into your head and keeps you interested and engaged the entire time, and you never feel bored or overwhelmed. (Except maybe on an exam day)
1 This class gave me new knowledge on U.S history of how we stand in politics today and as we did back then.
1 His powerpoint lectures were concise, easy to take notes for, and kept my interest during class. He really connected history from our time to the time we were looking at. The recurring motif of the spectrum really is an effective method to help understand where the different actors in history stood, and where the individuals stood within the broader... 'spectrum' of the different factions. Antithetical perspectives on issues was a much more effective way of looking through the historical glass. I've never gotten history from an antithetical perspective. I figure it won't happen again any time soon either. I'll miss his lectures. He really cares about what he teaches.
1 I really liked Joe's teaching style. He packs a lot of information in the time he has and does so efficiently and effectively. It really helps that's he's technologically apt and uses his computer and moodle so well. I really enjoyed this class.

1 The integration of the forums was an interesting way of learning in my opinion, as many other classes in which I used the forums wasn't as engaging as the forums for U.S history.

1 It's already really effective.
1 All I can say is, I didn't like the intro day with the reviews. I've had teachers both at LCC and UO who approach the class that way. I hadn't thought much on it until later in the term when it had been a show of their egotism. Past experiences such as that put the idea of dropping the class into my head. Thankfully I did not, and you are one of the few exceptions, but I think some students thought the way I did and actually dropped and missed out. Personally, I would rather have gone right into the lectures, but that's just me. Otherwise, loved this class, well taught, obvious passion, don't change shit!
1 More time for review perhaps.
1 There was a lot of reading, it would be helpful if there was a way to pick key points in each chapter that needed to be focused on.
1 I think the book could be emphasized more. In class time is extremely important but only really follows the book in timeline. I wish it had been better emphasized that taking each quiz multiple times was really important for the midterm/final

1 Some of the questions on the quizzes and midterm test I thought were asking us too much about small details. I can understand how some of them were necessary. I felt there were a few times where I could tell you all about whatever the subject of the question was, but I didn't know the one detail that was asked and I ended up getting the whole thing wrong. I would have liked more questions that had to do with the main idea of a topic.
1 I think that the exams could be shortened!
1 Being taught and entertained means you don't want it to end. Longer classes would be a boon to us students. Otherwise, no complaints.
1 Overall, this was a good class with an enthusiastic teacher, I don't think that this class could be improved any more than what it is.
1 i didn't find the forums stimulating or necessary other then for class credits. More like busy work. I would rather write essays.
1 This class focused on past presidents and their administrations foreign and domestic policies; which was quite informative. what he deemed the 'important stuff'. However, this class could be improved by incorporating more cultural studies. We barely mentioned important figures such as MLK, Malcolm X, Black Panthers, and topics such as redlining, freedom riders, women's movement, Mexican Americans, Native Americans and social movements in general. Yet instead focused more on the Red Scare, McCarthyism, and nativism. I understand there is limited time to teach such topics, yet I feel it could have been more balanced.

1 The only suggestion I would make is possibly having a midterm study session. Other than that, I really enjoy Joe's class. He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his job.

1 I think the forums should be Tuesday morning to Monday night. The Saturday to Saturday schedule messed me up.

1 Leave the class as is, it was easier to learn the way it was set up.
1 More class time and less forums. I did not learn anything from the forums, but the class was great.
1 I really didn't like the forums. They were a little to much social interaction. May I suggest essay An essay or an opinion article.

1 I am not getting the grade I feel I deserve in this class because of the midterm and final exam style. If the instructor wrote the exams I feel I would have done much better.
1 It could be said that some of the media is a bit non-sequitur, but I think he does a fine job of relating it all back to class material.
1 I think offering an instructor led study group for midterms, maybe during your office hours, would be great. It's sooo helpful for the final, I wish I had more help with the mid term.
