What did you like about the class?

I liked that we used the whole time to actually learn the material.
I enjoyed Mr. Escobar's lectures. The information is always on point with the topic and he relates it to current events when possible.
This course was a very well thought out survey course of American History that touched on issues with the perfect amount of depth with still maintaining the overall bigger picture concepts of American history.
I enjoyed the way the class was laid out. Escobar was very clear on his standards of what he wanted.
I loved the lectures and really enjoyed every single class day! Best History professor I've ever had by far!
The instructor was very organized, fair, and helpful. Many opportunities were given for every student to be successful. The material presented during lectures directly correlated with the material present on exams. I also enjoyed how there was ample opportunity to earn points and boost your grade with online forums, quizzes, and opinion polls.

I liked the Forum posts and the ability to attend either class makes this calls far more flexable.
I love history in general, but I really did enjoy Mr. Escobar too. He was an excellent teacher who clearly loves U.S History, but he also gives the class to you straight. From day one you know how to succeed and it is easy to do so if you just apply yourself. Great class.
Joe's teaching style was awesome. I really do enjoy learning history, especially recent history, and the way Joe taught it made learning fun. Easily the most fun I've had in a history course.
I liked that he was very passionate about US history and that he had been to and seen specific monuments or documents that helped him explain points and historical facts. I also enjoyed how he would always tie in other things from past weeks to the point he was making that current day in class. It helped me understand the relations between them.
I enjoyed the in class lecture. Joe did a great job of making the subject relatable and enjoyable.

Great class. I loved the consistent showing of historical spectrums and how Joe generally taught the material.
It always helps when a teacher has a passion about what they are teaching. I also enjoyed the bar not being set too high or too low. You definitely have to earn your grade but all the material is given in an organized way which I am so appreciative of. We are set up for success in this class.
I enjoyed this class because you can see Mr. Escobar's passion for the subject, he understands his material thoroughly, and is very enthusiastic about the subject.

Joe is an excellent instructor and made what some consider a boring subject, into an exciting class that I always looked forward to attending.
I really could appreciate how passionate and knowledgable Joe was throughout the course. Even though History is a dense subject to learn about, his examples and clarifications about the book made concepts easier to grasp. He formed various visualizations to help assess the course material.
I appreciated that the teacher didn't use a lot of material that was not presented in the book.

How could this class be improved? Add any comments about the class and/or instructor that you feel might be helpful or useful.

I think the textbook should go along with the slides more. The textbook was more dense.
Some of the forum subjects were a bit dull and, while relevant, uninteresting to research or gain an opinion about.
For some its harder to participate in a forum where you need multiple posts throughout the week, I think adding an option to allow a more substantial post(s) for credit would be good. However I think your forum is still fair and the way you grade it is too.
The ONLY issue I had with this class is the 20% attendance. Missing 1 class drops your overall grade by 1% which I feel is way to heavily weighted.
Possibly tweak forum 4, I found the topics very uninteresting and hard to comment on
No suggestions for improvement of this class. It was instructed and run extremely well, and I feel I benefited greatly from this course in many ways.

On the exams if there would be 4 answers listed rather then 5. Student's chances of getting a correct answer becomes more difficult with 5 options rather then 4.
I feel this class could be improved by offering a short study session for the midterm.
I thought you did a great job, you taught the material well, made it relevant to today, contacted students frequently and prepared students well.

Free coffee? But seriously, I can't think of any way that the course could be improved, as all needs that I can think of are already met.
I would've found it helpful to have had a few (just two or three) true of false practice questions before the first midterm, just because those were the only things that I didn't know were going to be on the test. I also understand that it is a test and I am supposed to be prepared for everything, I just felt as though I was unprepared for those types of questions.
Maybe a general layout of spectrums laid out in a handout for students to study.
Joe can learn to understand student situations and help by accommodating if they are still trying to learn the course material  I'm not sure if this comment means I DO accomodate students (which I think I do) or if it suggests that I do not. I am always happy to help worthy students.
Talking about the chapter in class before the quizzes. Sorry, but no.  It is the students' job to read the text, take the quiz (an unlimited number of times to earn a 70% or better), and be prepared for the material BEFORE class time.

Wish Joe on occasion would get class more involved. He could ask students questions and/or how we felt on a certain subjects. Overall great class, though!
I believe the course work is helpful. When managing time effectively its a bit easier, yet, it is 'busy' work. 
I didn't like the forums because there was never any feedback from the instructor with regards to whether you were doing them the right way. I think the instructor should have taken a more active role in the forums. I do take a very large role in creating and updating the forums each term, in addition to reading and scoring every single student post.  The larger issue for me is that in the past, once I have interjected a correction or clarification, the forum discussion had often "shut down" as students became fearful of making mistakes themselves and wanting to avoid public humiliation.  My comments were not belittling, but that perception was difficult to overcome.

I'm not a fan of hybrid classes, but this one wasn't too bad. But not much to change. Just study well for tests, you have the resources.
Feedback on our forum posts. To go from 6 points to 4 points is frustrating, and it's even more frustrating to not know why. I'm always sad when I read a comment like this.  I am ALWAYS available and willing to help students during office hours or appointments any day of the week.  I am willing to have email and/or phone conversations, too. 
Get rid of the forums. I didn't find them very useful, although it's great considering it's free points
I have no idea what could improve this class.
Maybe read some of the chapters in class and encourage his students more to ask questions. Make the midterm and final less questions.
Not much really. I guess a good study method would be to reopen all quizzes before an exam, of course not to distribute credit, but strictly for studying purposes; that way, people could study each chapter specific to a chapter with its many questions in sequence. I do enjoy the mixed question practice quizzes too. Im just saying this other potential method might work too since other people may not always have time to take the quizzes multiple times before the exam. Just an idea. I have always opened every quiz for students to use to prepare for the midterm and final exams.
Both study sessions on the same day like it was before, or atleast not a couple hours before the final. I'm sure it works for some people but unfortunately not me this term
Give the construction workers downstairs foam tools during class time.
I would have liked more explanation on how to participate in the forums to achieve full credit. I cannot emphasize enough that students need to talk with their instructors.
I think the Exams are harder than any other class I have taken, knowing various definitions is a must in this course. I think having multiple choice exams hinder the students ability to apply their knowledge and understanding. That's just my personal opinion anyway. I understood the material, but as soon as I took the exams, sometimes the listed answers confused me more than helped.
I just wish there was more hands on stuff that would have helped me grasp the material better.
