What did you like about the class?

I enjoyed the lectures and certain subjects from the chapters we read.
The fact that it was a hybrid class and it allowed me to participate outside of the class
There are so many different aspects on parts of our history, and this class made sure to touch on all of them. I feel like I benefited from lecture and readings.
The style of teaching, straight to the point but well explained
I enjoyed learning all the material, I found it very interesting, in most parts. Learning it was easy due to the fact that we read the chapter, then took a test, then went over it in class as a presentation.
Escobar is a great instructor and I appreciated his opinions
I liked how I learned the correct history and not the high school's version of history. There were many things that I thought I knew or didn't know, and you opened my eyes on things like not every one was a slave owner in the south. You taught this class with passion and you knew all of your curriculum.
I enjoyed learning the history I appreciated taking a lot of notes
I enjoyed the in-class lectures. I found them interesting and I liked the way you explained things from multiple perspectives.
It was super interesting, this class was actually enjoyable to come to.

I liked the quizzes and how you could take it multiple times and you only needed a 75 to pass.
I liked the shorter class time that was offered with this hybrid course. The instructor was never short of enthusiasm in the subject and teaching it effectively.
I liked the interesting lectures and videos he gave. Both together proved very useful to me as I am more of a visual person so I liked the info combined with videos. Overall, it was a very informative class.

I learned a lot in this course, although I'm not good at History. The teacher did a great job! I used to feel the boring story, but it was totally different in this class. I really like how the teacher explain each point using today's examples that are related to the past.
The professor offered an excellent point of view regarding the subject. Also was very thoughtful in his remarks.

Joe is a great lecturer and works really hard to make sure that his students can succeed.
The hybrid aspect. Having the work split up between in-class and online meant that our in-class time was well-spent and we could cover the more important stuff, while the miscellaneous info, quizzes, and discussions were held outside of class.
Time was spent very well, and the instructor showed passion for the subject.
Very interesting and engaging course, I enjoyed being able to stay engaged every lecture regardless of the material being taught. The instructor was very good about presenting the material in a way that was neutral but in depth and informative
Escobar made a boring subject less boring
Overall, this class was amazing! Professor Escobar knows his history, and you could see the passion he has for teaching it to his students.
I can't remember the last time I had an instructor that was as engaged with the students as Professor Escobar is. He went above and beyond to provide me with any additional movies and other resources that I was interested in, relating to the subject matter we were going over. He is very easy and fun to talk to and it is obvious how much fun he has teaching this class.
I liked the way you presented the material with enthusiasm. You made history fun to learn, and presented from multiple sources of information to show us that even historians disagree about exact details and numbers. The class flowed very nicely and progressed through time in an order that made it easy to understand how events influenced and lead into each other.
It was a really interesting class. This is my second history class at Lane (US History since 1945 being the first), and I have found them both incredibly enlightening and engaging.
It was hybrid and you had to learn the stuff on your own but in class we would go over the basis of it which I think is effective.
That he is very intelligent and passionate about the subjects.
Professor Escobar is very communicative and organized in class and on Moodle making it easy to stay on top of homework and quizzes. I like his "no tricks" style of teaching. I also really enjoyed his unbiased approach and making sure to show all sides. I think he does a great job teaching sensitive subjects in a fact based way.
I enjoyed the enthusiasm Professor Escobar exhumed in the classroom. As someone who has never fancied history, I became somewhat passionate about the subject and I look forward to learning from him. Also, I enjoyed how perfectly timed his classroom lectures was, each minute of the class was important and used appropriately. I also enjoyed how we were fully aware on what we would be tested on.
I feel like I learned a lot of valuable information that I think more people should know.
Teaching methods
I liked that the professor is knowledgable and passionant, not just that but he is very honest with what he teaches and the information he uses
Mr. Escobar made the lectures very interesting and utilized a variety of tools. Videos, web articles, and subjects relevant not only to history but current events.
The main thing I liked about the class was the enthusiasm and the wide range of knowledge both historical and present of the teacher.
The content was interesting, and I liked the way Joe analyzed it in class.
Joe's enthusiasm and dedication to his job made this course enjoyable. I felt that I was give all of the tools I needed to be successful. His lectures made the class go by quickly and his presentations are flawless.

The forums were intimidating, I am not sure why it was so hard for me to come up with the conflicting ideas from different sources we reviewed. So maybe extra talk and visuals IN CLASS would help people complete that portion of the course.
I can't think of anything you are a really good teacher
Doing this as a hybrid class adds on a lot of course work, less online focus and more in class grades would also encourage people to go to class.

I feel like questions or comments about anything, that any of the students have, should be held until the end of the class, some students just took away valuable time in the class that we could have used to learn more of the material (even if it's just a minute).

I thought the class was great. I found the forums to be challenging, but I enjoyed seeing how people interpreted the same material differently. I do sort of wish we had spent more time with the maps because I don't know any of the states we talked about in class, but being able to take the map home was helpful. The last few lectures were a bit fast-paced, but that was likely because we had to finish covering the material, but overall I thoroughly enjoyed the class.
Maybe better instruction on what's being asked of you.

Ask more questions and allow for different people to give an answer.
Maybe more emphasis on forum grades, maybe increasing forum grades over the quiz grades that students can get 100% by just getting a C on the quiz may get more students to engage in the forums
If we could've had an extra review day thrown into the middle of the term I would've appreciated it. I know we're on a tight schedule and the instructor doesn't have a whole lot of time but it would have greatly helped me on the mid-term.
Could have had more group work other than the debates we have on forums.

I do not learn well with the lecture and writing notes method of teaching. I think making the class more interactive would help some students.
The one thing I really wish is that forum do dates showed up on the moodle home page with the rest of the moodle deadlines, if that is possible to even do that would be awesome.
The forums are a bit messy. Smaller groups would make for better discussion. More diverse assignments could be nice. I liked the last forum because it was different. I learn best from doing different activities with the information I've learned.
I can't think of anything specific that I felt was structured poorly, or anything that felt out of place.

Maybe allow better opportunities for late work (biased opinion since I would have personally benefitted from this), mostly due to my own experience missing a few forum posts due to other classes and/or personal obstacles outside of class. Overall a great course though and I would recommend it to other students!
There is very little I can think of that could improve this class. Maybe making it a 2 hour class? An hour and 20 min felt so short for how interesting this class is.
Besides taking field trips to historical places, I cannot think of any suggestions to improve this class. I enjoyed seeing the pictures of your travels with your family to historical places, it helped tie past history and modern day together. You're enthusiasm for the material made the class a lot of fun, and class always seemed to end too early. I never got bored in class. I really liked the way you paced the lecture with note-taking, evaluating pictures, watching videos, and asking questions. I think it kept the class lively, and I didn't find myself getting bored like I usually do in history classes. This has been my favorite history class thus far.
I don't think that forums add any real value to classroom discussion. I am sure that they are helpful to some, but they seem to me more like busywork.

I would like to have less of our grades be based on forums. I enjoyed the forums but I somehow feel that Professor Escobar asked for too much in regards to the forums. Please stop the forums!
Make sure the teacher is going at a speed that all students can follow him at.

I think this class would benifit from more interactive activities forcing students to interact with eachother and better rmember the information they learn

Some additional assignments besides just quizzes and forums. I dont know any of my classmates and the term is over, so a social assignment would be great. The forums are more like essays than debates. They are not enjoyable. I would get more out of listening and participating in classroom debates.
