What did you like about the class?

The material for this class is extremely enjoyable. From the well written textbook (in my opinion), to the forums that are designed very effectively by Joe to encourage the students to engage in discussions about sometimes controversial topics, you really end up feeling like you got the most out of this course that the limited time in one quarter can offer you. Joe maximizes every minute of class-time very efficiently, and his courses are an incredible classroom experience that unfortunately is hard to come by.
My favorite part of this class was how Professor Escobar used the class time in a way that not only brought to life the brutal reality of US History, but he also taught the subject with a sense of passion and pure knowledge that brought with it an energy that made me find my own interest in the subject. If not the attainment of great historical knowledge, the true gift of this class taught by Professor Escobar was the passion he bestowed upon myself, whether that passion leads me further into the subject is still up in the air though!

The lectures are amazing. The use of audio, video and instruction combine to make the class an experience versus just a course. The combination of online forums, quizzes, attendance and tests balance grades out fairly well. As long as you do the work, you will learn a lot and be successful.
I liked a lot about this class. I liked the subject, I liked Joe's teaching pace (it wasn't too fast or slow), I liked how you could take the online tests as many times as you wanted, and I liked that Joe actually added relevant things in class (as opposed to some classes where it feels like everything the professor says is just a repeat of the textbook). I also liked how Joe tried to get use to understand why people in history did the things they did, which might seem outlandish to us today.
I enjoyed that we took quizzes on the material after reading the chapters, and then Joe thouroughly discussed that material in class.

I loved how much enthusiasm Professor Escobar had for this subject. It made me actually want to participate and pay attention. I learned more in this history class in 10 weeks than I ever did in all four years of high school. I also loved how transparent this class was with what happened in history. I never knew a majority of things we learned about the U.S. before this class.
I liked how much we were taught and how interesting he made the lectures. I ALSO LIKED HOW HE WOULD RELATE THINGS WE WERE LEARNING TO things going on in the world today.
The thing I liked the most was his lecturing style he was very intriguing and it was energetic and excitement for the stuff that was being taught but it was in such a relaxed way that it wasn't all in your face.
The teacher made the best out of lecture and really engaged the class.
As a whole the course was excellent, I enjoyed the material, as well as the teaching style.
I liked the content and information and perspective provided by the instructor. I actually learned a great deal of information that I otherwise would have been ignorant of or never questioned my understanding of historical events.

I liked that Mr. Escobar showed us photos of his travels to historical sites, as well as included some of his personal family history related to the material. I like that sort of thing and I feel like it helps the students be more engaged in the material.
I learned a lot in this class and it was cool how Joe brought today's world into the subject.
I like how communicative the instructor is. Everything is very clearly laid out.
I like the freedom to work on quizzes at home on my own time because I have really bad testing anxiety.
I found ever lecture I attended was interesting and well taught. The instructor always seemed excited to be teaching the class which really goes a long way. The lectures were always efficient and informative, very little wasted time.
I loved how passionate Joe was about the subject. I also really enjoyed the stories he would tell that would always wrap around and tie into the subject we were learning. As well as when a group of students would get the same question wrong he would remove it from the test.
I liked that the material presented in class aligned with what was being discussed in the textbook. I also liked how we looked at history through several different "lenses," so to speak, over the course of the term. (i.e. spectrums, modern connections, economic motivation, etc.) I also liked the way we reviewed the midterm results. I think that helps prepare students for the final.
I really enjoyed Mr. Escobar’s simple and easy-to-follow rules/instructions. The quizzes, the forum posting, the tests, etc. were all exactly how he told us they would be during class. You had to try pretty hard to not understand what was required of you.
I liked that I could learn a objective view of American History. I was shocked of the history I was exposed to but I understand now this is normal things that happen even today. I liked that you showed us picture of the historical places that you went to. I admire your enthusiasm in History.
Although there was a pretty high workload, the information gained was worth it and was reviewed in class. I especially liked the preparation for the final and midterm. The instructor made sure that everyone who wanted to be well prepared could be.
I have taken 3 terms with Mr. Escobar and the reason I continue to take his classes is because of his teaching style. While some of the material can be looked at as "dull", he does his best to make it as energetic as possible with the use of videos, personal examples and other mean of instructing. It makes the classes go by fast because you are constantly being given new material to study.
I liked that this class was heavy on lectures and notes because I had all the information I needed to study and learn. Some people would not like doing this but everyone is different and has their own style and methods of learning.
I liked the hybrid course part and the fact its our responsibility to rad to book and take the quizzes but also when we get to class he reinforces and ads to what we learn.
Teacher's knowledge of materials was fanamoanole
I have taken a lot of classes here at LCC and I feel their weakness is in the facility members. However after taking this class I found that Joe Escobar is the best teacher here at LCC. Every day I came to class I learned a lot of awesome facts that previous history classes never taught me. Joe helped turn history (a subject I suck at) into a very enjoyable and fun class.
The class had its strengths in lessons and content, but if you got sick, you were screwed for the most part. Also, the book took forever to read and everything in the book was covered in class, for the most part.
The teaching style, the ease/availability of lecture material, the clear deadlines for assignments, and how Joe Escobar's enthusiasm for history was infectious.
The lectures were never boring.
I liked that I learned some things I never knew about a part of history I've learned about time and time again. Taking this class has slightly changed my perspective.

The class was easy to fallow and it didn't jump around the timeline was good with all the quizzes.

It would be awesome if this course could be a full Lecture course and still keep the forum posts, that way students could have more opportunities to engage with each other and the professor.
Perhaps the only thing that would've been nice to have in the class throughout the term would be the confidence to ask questions that might spur a coversation, although I recognize that might take time away from the already dense material that still needs to be taught.

I honestly really enjoyed this class and I don't think anything could be done to improve it. I wish I could take his class next term, but unfortunately I already have the credits I need.

This class could improve by grouping together all the terms based on chapters on the study guide list.
I think maybe going over the forums a little more in class and maybe studying the map a little more.

Forum expectations were a little unclear at first.
My only critique is the weight of the forums online being reduced or possibly a student aid that interjects to spark better discussion within the forums.
The chapter readings are very long and dense. I understand that reading text book is part of learning history but it got pretty grueling at times. Maybe implementing some other forms of getting the material would be helpful to keep things fresh. Thank you for a good term!
This class was very difficult. A lot of work, but that is expected in a history class. I underestimated this class a lot.

Maybe go over more of what is expected in the forums.
I think the class works well as it is. I don't think I could add any meaningful improvements.
I wish there was more of a review for the midterm.
This might be impractical and overly time-consuming, but the way we reviewed the midterm seemed to be very effective, so what if all of the chapter quizzes were discussed in class that way?
I feel like a few more take-home assignments might of been helpful. I only say that because I know that always helps me stay on top of my study habits.
I think that everything is good and its just us students that need more insight of what we are studying. I always enjoyed the class lectures.
It couldn't be improved really. If we had a bit more time in the term, which cannot be controlled by the instructor, to spread out the amount of reading. As said before, there is a high workload, but the information is worth learning.

I think maybe the instructor could include group work such as mini projects are just simple group assignments but overall I thought this was a great class and I really enjoyed how the instructor conducted it.
One improvement is to have more students in the forum for responses because some students in a small forum will not give feedback.
Everything was great as is
I honestly couldn't think of anything to make this class better. Their wasn't any wasted time in this class, from the second Joe arrives the whole class is attentive and ready to follow along. At the most I would recommend finding more extra credit opportunities for students.
Having to use office hours when missing a class is difficult when you work full time on the days office hours are open and have class on the days when you're not working. Teacher seemed unapproachable over the internet. Class is not good for people with anxiety and depression issues and people with health issues that make attending classes regularly difficult.
I feel like the class could be improved with more class engagement.
I would personally have assignments that just the teacher read compared to having to share my thoughts with other students.
the forms where a little confusing but if you put the work in and read the instructions carefully you where able to get a good grade on them.
