I learned a lot of new information about the U.S. which was my goal and reasoning for taking this class.
The class was heavy on reading the material and going to class in order to understand it. I enjoyed taking the class
History has never really been my favorite or best subject but this class was easy to follow while still having the right level of challenge to it that kept it interesting. The class was very organized
Overall I enjoyed the content of the course. History has always been one of my favorite subjects, so I appreciated learning more about the U.S. in the 1900's.
I liked that the material is always interesting and presented in a way that made me think.

Your presenting style is very engaging and interesting. I could tell that you really wanted to students to learn and gave us lots of opportunities to do so.
I loved this class, it was the first course that I have taken at Lane that felt like a real college course and not like a high school class. The professor was unbiased, very entertaining in class, clearly had a passion for the subject, and challenged us to really think about the subject which I found really cool.
The lectures made class feel like it was going by quicker. You can tell Professor Escobar really cares about history and in turn sharing that knowledge with others.
I liked that the teacher was genuinely knowledgeable and had passion for the subject. This really showed in the lessons(showing pictures of you visiting famous landmarks) and workload. I felt that the teacher genuinely wanted me to learn how interesting the subject really is and made me enjoy learning about it. The teacher was fair and reasonable reminding us about upcoming assignments and due dates. And didn't swamp us with assignments and made the workload reasonable and perfect for learning the subject without stressing about non-important assignments that don't apply to the topic.
The lectures were probably, if not, the best part. The instructor was passionate and educated in the course and could feel his passion and willingness to know more through his lectures.
I like the weekly quiz testing system. You only have to get 14 out of 20 correct on any one try to pass, but you can take it as many times as you want, and there are 100 questions that may be on any 20-question test. It helps to take it multiple times. Also, the fact that there are 2 or 3 ways to gain a point by doing extra credit is good, especially if you missed a class or two. I didn't take advantage of all three extra credit opportunities that I knew of, but the extra points from the ones I did complete will make my overall score a bit more impressive.
How could this class be improved? Add any comments about the class and/or instructor that you feel might be helpful or useful.

I think that tests should be open note as there is a lot of material to memorize.
I think the class could be improved by having it be a bit more interactive for students that don't necessarily learn from only lectures and quizzes.
I wish the class was more engaging and had more open activities like assignments requiring us to study a subject on our own and share it with the class or work in groups.
I found the class enviorment extremly negative. The instructer is very condesending, and the textbook is confusing. It felt like the instructer was more interested in discusing his accomplishments and the students failures then helping the students learn the material.
I don't have any ideas that could improve this class.
I appreciated the chance for extra credit, the downside was those assignments often overlapped with forum weeks. If they had been any other week I would of most likely taken the opportunity for extra credit. Other than that I enjoyed the class.
Some of the forum content could have been more directly relevant to what we were learning about in the specific time periods we were discussing. Some of the images and cartoons especially seemed like they could have been replaced with content that might open up more discussion of the things we had learned about in the chapters.
It's hard to say. On one hand I thought that the midterm was really hard and just required more information to be memorized than I could fit in my brain, and therefore I would recommend slimming down or specifying the topics on the study list. But on the other hand, that was also part of what made the class great for me, the difficulty and the stress I felt approaching tests felt like how college should feel.
The forum requirements are a little intense on top of the heavy reading assignments. I like the forums; but I found them to occasionally be the thing that was just a bit too much for one class.
Personally, the only problem that I faced was the forums initial post due date.
Perhaps find a way for it to be more of a traditional class rather than be heavily dependent on online is my only suggestion. Some learners, like myself, learn more from in class rather than online trying to figure it out myself.
I think in-person classes can be improved by taking advantage of the internet. In other classes I am taking, I tend to find recorded online versions of the lectures to be very helpful even if the class is in-person. Sometimes I might have a hard time understanding what was said in class, and find it a help to go back and listen to a recorded powerpoint-type presentation online. I suppose the existence of such recordings might discourage actual class attendance, but in this class attendance is required, so it might not matter in this class. Recorded online lectures might not work the same or have the same effect as they do in say, a math class. But they still might be helpful.
