What did you like about the class?

I really liked how smooth the lectures were. You can tell Professor Escobar puts a lot of work into his PowerPoints and is very articulate when lecturing. In particular I enjoyed the photos, cartoons, and videos that are weaved into the PowerPoints.

I liked the timeline of the course and all the topics we covered throughout the term. the lectures were easy to follow and fun to listen to. The instructor showed a lot of passion and knowledge of the topics he was teaching.

Professor Escobar's lectures were some of my favorites I have had in a class. He built upon the information from the textbook in a way that rewarded me for reading the textbook instead of making me feel like I wasted time. The use of documentaries and modern articles in class tied the historical debates of the past into those I was more familiar with. The forum assignments really made me think about the topics being discussed, and often pushed my viewpoints in ways that made me rethink my views.

What I liked about the class was looking at both sides of the spectrum for overall views throughout each time period.

Joe is a very funny, kind, and understanding instructor. The information taught in this class is definitely worth your time. I found the use of real illustrations, photos, and footage from the 1900s to be very interesting.

Mr. Escobar has incredible breadth and depth of historical knowledge. I appreciated his balanced perspective that explored historical events in a nuanced manner.

You always know exactly what is expected of you and what material will be important to study.

I love how inclusive, engaging and interesting this class was! The professor knew what he was talking about, and encouraged us to think on our own, AND to think outside of the box (outside of what we typically see online and on the news). 🤔

I really liked how no nonsense it was, everything was relevant and important

I liked the teaching style and being able to give students creative freedom with assignments

I really enjoyed how the lecture interweaved parts of the textbook by going in depth during lectures, while also covering all the course material within the given time we had in class.

Besides the general material I really enjoyed your teaching style, as someone who participated in online school during COVID I find your usage of in class time was amazing as well as the online portion being very easy to navigate and all polices are 100% fair. I must also comment on how I appreciate your more classical teaching style acting like a teacher and not trying to be friends with students, I find this style is more beneficial to actually learn things and Its also something I don't see very often anymore.

The lectures were engaging and the material was pretty interesting.

I enjoyed your teaching style and the pace at which this class moved. Often, professors at Lane will move slowly, making it difficult to stay alert. You move just "slow" enough to take good notes and soak up material, but quick enough to keep students engaged and alert. Similarly, you are an incredible instructor with your lectures, the class material, and how you answer questions. Many college professors are knowledgeable about their subject but not effective as educators; you however, are great at both. I am thrilled I took this class, and would definitely take another class instructed by you again; I would also highly recommend this class to other students.

I enjoyed this class a lot. My professor was clearly well educated and fostered excitement for the topic. I appreciate the mix of old and new media, I felt like it took older concepts and allowed me to see them in modern life dynamics. Overall I would definitely take another class from professor Escobar and am very happy I took this course. I also think it is awesome that remembering dates and statistics isn't stressed in this course but overall comprehension is the most crucial part.

I like how we were able to use multiple sources that were provided in class to answer make a forum post. I also like how Mr. Escobar was able to teach students to question statistics ,even if those statistics came from government agencies. I also learnt how to use the right terminology when discussing historical terms .For example the meaning of nativism or the difference between communism and fascism.

The class is pretty well structured and I enjoyed actually being in class so there isn't much I would change. However when I was doing the online forum discussions I thought to myself how cool this would be if we had these discussions/debates in class face to face. I like to debate/discuss topics and doing it in person is more fulfilling for me.

Personally I wished the time in class was longer as I would be so invested in the lesson that it felt like I was there for 30 minutes.

I cant really think of any improvements. I guess the only thing I can think of is an open resource textbook, but even then the text used in the class was not hard to get a hand of at a low cost, and Professor Escobar was helpful in determining which texts were acceptable for the class.

Sometimes I couldn't get enough information from the slides onto my notes.

It's hard to shorten 90 years of American history into a 10 week course without doing a lot of studying, so be prepared for that. I would definitely recommend to study extensively each week before class and to post to the forums when they're available at least every other day.

It can be challenging to meet the post-every-other-day requirement in forums. Increasing the time between deadlines could be advantageous to improve flexibility for busy students.

I'd rather spend time discussing in groups in class than working on the forums. They are easy to do but do not feel engaging.

I was a bit confused on some of the vague prompts in the forums. 🤔

I just wish the students would engage more

More collaborative work

I actually cant think of anything, due to the natural limitations of a hybrid style course I find you as the instructor utilized everything very fair for us the students.

I can't think of any.

Overall I fell like this course is very well thought out and taught. One suggestion would be offering one sided post notes for finals just based on how fast pasted the chapters are especially in the second half of the term.

I don't know if my recommendation would be possible considering that the lecture is only 1 hour and 20 minutes .However sometimes the lectures feel as if they are going at a fast pace so sometimes I miss a few important details when covering a chapter. Other than that I have no problems
