What did you like about the class?

I didn't do too well in the class however I can say you are a great teacher and I learned a lot the days I remembered my notebook

I liked the sharing of personal experiences at these places we were looking at and the lessons we were learning.

They Class was very informative and a good environment to learn and think.

I really enjoyed this class, the communication was very good, I always felt like I knew what was expected of me, study lists were helpful, weekly tests felt relevant, stayed on topic.

I liked that we were always working in class and staying focused.

I think that our teacher did a amazing job having good energy and helping support all the students

I liked the instructor because he was easy going and always free after class to chat and discuss history with.

I enjoyed that throughout this class, Escobar showed he has a vast knowledge of the material covered. He showed us pictures and experiences of himself visiting historical sites and showing us memes and videos that are relatable and easy to grasp. I also appreciated his clear passion for US history and joyous charisma throughout his classes.

I enjoyed the frequent usage of documentaries, statistics given with context, and the inclusion of primary sources in the forms of drawings, voice recordings, and written excerpts.

I enjoyed the fact that a majority of the graded elements were online, and I also enjoyed the fact that we utilized a variety of materials in class, such as videos and lectures, to understand the course material at a higher level. One element of the class that I also found valuable was how engaged the professor was with the subject of the founding of our nation, as demonstrated through his travels and education on significant historical locations.

I enjoyed how the class was taught and I I really like how the professor went over the key information from the textbook chapter. I also really liked how it was clear that the professor was passionate about History which made the class engaging.

I enjoyed how the tests were assigned in certain time periods where you could come when you want and get it done. I really liked that aspect.

Class time was used very efficiently, and the connections between the past and present that were drawn.

I really appreciated the enthusiasm and obvious deep interest in U.S History the Prof, had, it made me eager to learn more. That being said, the term started out rough for me, as I have a learning disability that makes it difficult for me to fully comprehend, retain, overthink, and determine what information is the main focus of the quizzes. I asked Prof. Escobar for a weekly study guide to help make it easier for me to study and he complied. Since then, I have been doing better (1 exception which was my own poor time management). I really look forward to taking HST202 with Escobar next term!

I like how although tests are a larger portion of your grade they are not the entire thing. I also like how passionate you are about history and really want to help students learn.

One thing that can be overall improved is putting the forums in a spot where it shows up as a due assignment.

Less forms and more class work

Allow notes on the tests. 

Some of the forums were hard to understand and wasn't quite sure exactly how to fill them out properly to receive full credit.

I think more involvement with the class is always a nice way to learn hands on.

I loved the class, I wish I had paid more attention and worked harder to earn my desired grade. When I talked to Escobar about the ways to bring my grade up, he was very forthcoming and supportive of how I could bring my grade up and gave me steps to do so. However, one thing that I am not too fond of is the forum posts. I understand it is for the students to engage with one another but it felt more automated than a conversation. It wasn't enjoyable for me. Although that could be due to myself and how I conducted the forums, I believe another way to envolve students communication with one another would be to have groups per week and for one of the members to have a topic of discussion, like a topic from the forums, and for the others to come together and find the answer to that topic. I understand that not everyone may show up but changing groups weekly or bi-weekly could be a solution. 

I feel as though the efforts of the instructor to bring in modern politics to the class, while good in some cases, became overwhelming and stifling in others, and in some cases got lost in its own message and distracted or became detached from the original point he was trying to make. While I appreciate the effort to create connections between past and present, it felt like sometimes the class became more about commiserating about unpopular modern politics rather than examining the politics of the past time periods we were meant to study, and I feel like it cut into precious time we might have used better to in class to cover those historical topics or answer questions students might have.

I think there is one element of the class that could be improved, and that is to make deadlines for some of the forum posts on actual class days to ensure that participants are checking Moodle and are aware of post dates. I think that this small change and perhaps requiring four posts throughout a five-day period would ensure more engagement from the class. Additionally, I would suggest that perhaps amending your late work policy to allow for one late assignment to be taken at any point throughout the term so that early errors in submission or inevitable conflicts with assignments don't end up hurting the student later on in the term. All in all, however, I found that the professor was more than thorough in covering the variety of subjects this term, and I appreciated having him as a professor.

One suggestion would be that the first post for the forums was due on Monday instead of Sunday. I just feel that many students dont check their email on Sunday and miss the opportunity to achieve full credit. Other than that the class was great!

I enjoyed how he taught the class and used class time wisely. Starts right on time, ends on time too. Escobar is very easy to listen to during lecture and is very clear and precise. 

I appreciated the smaller stories of individuals, like Washington calling another man fat in the boat, and the chief justice saying it must be raining somewhere. I'd suggest more of those because they make the faraway figures of the past seem more human, something which facts of their great deeds alone can fail to do.

The only thing I could think about that could be more helpful would be longer lectures. I found myself shocked that the lecture time was up, and wished that we could still learn the material. I'm sure that I am not the only one who felt this way in class.

Personally I am not a very good test taker so a study session for the midterm would be beneficial in my opinion.
