I'm not a huge fan of history but I enjoyed this class. Professor Escobar knew exactly what he was talking about and was passionate in his teaching which I greatly respect and appreciate in my professors.

The way Mr. Escobar runs his class is the picture perfect method in my opinion. It allowed me to learn, take major interest in what was being taught. And put in ways that were affective in helping me learn. He also took the time needed for students to have one on one talks. And he is extremely knowledgable about the subjects he is teaching, as well as incredibly enthusiastic and intrigued by what he was teaching. I wish I could have him as an instructor every term. Wasn't able to take the following history class which is a big bummer. Needless to say, my favorite instructor yet.

The lectures are very clear and effective. Love the video clips to keep the lecture from being too dry. The use of current day examples to relate back to historical events. The email reminders are super helpful.

I liked coming to class and hearing the lectures. I learned the most in class and found it very interesting and enjoyable to hear what the instructor had to say about history.

I liked that the instructor showed a huge interest in the subject and that I got to do most of my work online.

I loved how the instructor didn't make us memorize dates/statistics. He was always clear about what would be on the test. The exams were based on understanding as well as knowledge, and we were compensated for questions that over half the class missed. Joe Escobar enjoys teaching the material, which allowed me to enjoy learning. He was friendly and understanding, and his class was challenging but fair.

I like the clear instruction and the fact that the weekly quizzes can be taken any number of times.

I liked that I could pay attention because Escobar actually has enthusiasm in his lectures making them interesting and not dull like most history courses I have experienced.

I liked how well the information was presented. My other professors could learn a thing or two from Joe on how to use class time efficiently.

My favorite part of the class was learning about the Civil War.

Everything but if I had to choose one thing then it would have been the way that you taught the class. As well as the materials that you used they were perfect!

I liked that the instructor was so interested in the subject. Some teachers are afraid there days to express their opinion. Refreshingly Mr Escobar is not one of those.

Very easy and very informative. I now feel like I can actively participate in political conversations about America's dark past during family reunions and while trying to pick up chicks at the bar...when I'm old enough, of course.

Honestly everything. I never felt like i was waisting my time either in class or doing the homework assignments.

That we were made to know that this is nothing like the high school classes we were taught.

History was presented in an objective fair manner without personal bias.

I loved the class and had a great term because of it. This class was probably my favorite of every class I have taken so far (I have 44 credits).

I love how enthusiastic Professor Escobar is about teaching the class. He makes it very, very easy to pass as long as you are willing to put in a little bit of extra time.

I thought the depth of knowledge on the subject was exceptional. The use of varying medias to portray information (videos, graphs, cartoons etc.) kept myself the student interested and eager to for the presentations.

Interesting topic, and teacher that knew what he was talking about and made the material understandable.

Set up for success and ability to learn subject

I liked that the quizzes were a way for you to get the opportunity to bring your grade up if you were not doing well. I liked that attendance was mandatory because since it affects the person's grade, you had to show up and listen to the lecture. The deadlines were not unreasonable and the work was never too hard. I definitely enjoyed the class.

The instructor was very available to answer all my questions, and understanding when circumstances made me miss class and I needed to catch up.

I liked the hybrid part about it. It was something new to me. Also I liked the knowledge the teacher had.

The only thing that I wish was different is that I would have liked if the professor jumped in our forum discussions every now and then with his opinion on the topic. Also, the weight of the mid-term is heavy, I had a 90% until the mid-term and then dropped to a 66% when I didn't do as well. I have terrible testing anxiety so if there could have been less weight on the midterm and maybe a couple more assignments to balance it out that would have been great. Other than that, this class was great!

I think he's got everything well planned and under control.

Possibly a few aspects about the forums can be frustrating. Maybe it's just some of the subjects. Other than that I love the class. Escobar is a great instructor.

This class is already very good and I can not think of any improvements.

Make the online forums not online. Do them in class instead.

Some sort of heads-up about what level of detail we'll need for the test, like making the study list available earlier or noting which topics will and won't be covered in class.

It might be nice if the tests were easier and the grade adjustments on test scores were smaller.

I don't have any comments on how it can be improved.

Maybe some examples of good forum posts, or what kind of discussions we are expected to have in the forums. I felt like in the earlier forums no one really knew how to reply to one another or what they should be arguing for or against.

Honestly no, i enjoyed this class very much and can't think of anything that can be improved.

More information on African Americans, Native Americans, women.

Explain a little better about forums and how important it is to post and how hard you grade them.

Extra credit opportunities...

not much really. disagreed on a couple of interpretations, but other than that, excellent.

The only "stale" part of the class was the online forum, students didn't participate as much as they should.

Replace the forums with some kind of individual worksheet / assignment i.e. watch video, write short essay.

I think it would be helpful to go slower. it's hard to wrap your brain around everything and sometimes there was just too much being taught at once

I have no complaints about this class at all. This has been one of my favorite classes i have ever take and i truly thank the instructor for his professionalism and amazing teaching ability. Class was always on task and we never wasted time. Really, this class was great. I actually looked forward to waking up and going to the class every Tuesday and Thursday. Thanks a lot.

The only way I think it could be improved is to allow some room for class discussions and debates over certain controversial topics in class. The forums were a great way to get that type of group think but personally I am a person who would rather discuss it in class and I am sure I am not the only one.

Organization of the moodle profile. The information of articles are 3 links aways from the home page, which seems like a simple fix. Have quizzes and articles for the for forums posted on the front page in sections designated for both.

No comments here. It really seemed like the lesson plans were well thought out, he never ran out of time, or finished too early.

Make forums more accessible or interesting for students and emphasize the importance of them

I believe that the quizzes should be graded based on how well you do on them. It gives you more of a motivation to read the chapters and take better notes on them. Other than that, the class was well taught and Joe knew exactly what he was doing.

I think sometimes the long video clips made me zone out, so a few less videos would be helpful in keeping people engaged.
