Question:
How does Marguerite's view compare to her colleagues?
Answer:
The strengths in Marguerite's position include her willingness to revise and review her thinking in the light of research. She seems to enjoy ideas and appreciates the value of different view points. She is an independent thinker and is not content with others doing her thinking for her. She sees research as a tool to help her develop her understanding not just to solve practical problems. This should open up possibilities for creative and more effective ways of doing things.
Improving practice is implicit in Marguerite's statement but there is no direct reference to working with patients. It is possible, therefore, that her enjoyment of research could be accompanied by some impatience with the routine nature of some practice roles. That said, enjoyment of ideas and enjoyment of practice are not mutually exclusive. Ideally, both should enrich the other!
