FN 225: Nutrition
Rathakette, Ph.D. Health Professions Division Lane Community College Eugene, Oregon LECTURE 3A:
Chapter 4- part 1
Covalent Bonds (NOT on Exam 1) Test this week (Week 3) I would
recommend creating an index card, with anything you
choose written on it, to use for the test.
Since it is an exam that you are taking online, and
it won't be proctored, you can use your notes.
However, it is a 50 question test and you will only
have 60 minutes to take it. Therefore you will
not have time to look for answers in your
packet. Therefore I would suggest creating an
index card to use as a study tool.
Be certain to take and then study the results of the online review quiz in Week 2. If you have a special circumstance that you can't take exam by the due date. You need to let me know before the due date. Students taking this exam after the deadline need to take it at CENTER 456 Testing Lab at school even though you leave far away from school (You may use: ONE 3 x 5 note card ONLY during the exam.)
Forum this Week As always you can use the forums to ask questions. You all have done a great job using the forums to ask questions, but I would encourage you to answer other student's questions as well.

Now For the Lecture... Have the lecture outline
for Chapter 4-1 in front of you (You can print this off
of moodle under Week 3).
Watch this Video Clip first, before going below to the little animated "movie". Video Clip: Introduction to Covalent Bonds about 6 minutes |
The Study Questions this week include some information about a tiny animated "movie" that was created back in the late nineties. You can watch the following "movie"
|
Why this movie? When a plant makes glucose by photosynthesis, it captures the sun's energy in the bonds that join the atoms of carbons in glucose. One of the purposes of this movie is to explain what bonds are. Also, throughout this course we will be looking at the chemical structure of nutrients. The purpose of the movie is to introduce you to chemical structures, and explain what elements, electrons, and bonds are. |
The Path to Inner Peace. A "movie" about covalent bonding.
https://media.lanecc.edu/users/naylore/Media/03BBondingWebPage/ Thanks to Ken Loge for enabling this to run on the Web. This little movie requires the plugin Shockwave
which works fine on Windows-based computers. But it DOES seem to work on a Mac if you have
Internet Explorer on your Mac. I will give you two options for viewing it so if
the first doesn't work, try the second option. Make sure you answer Study questions 1-12 in SQ 4- Part 1 while viewing this "video". You have to click the mouse in order for the video to go to the next slide.
