Ate A Butter Pat, by Beth Naylor
(to the tune of "Found A Peanut" (aka "Clementine")
Ate a butter pat made of
triglycerides,
Ate a butter pat just now.
Just now I ate a butter pat
Made of triglycerides just now.
Went to the stomach and floated to the top,
That butter pat was in no rush.
Stayed in the stomach, stayed in the stomach
Till it went out in the mush.
Was emulsified into tiny drops
In the intestines by some bile.
By this time the total mixture,
Although mine, 'twas truly vile.
Now these triglycerides were digested
To fatty acids and glycerol.
Then they were absorbed, then they were absorbed
Into the cells of the intestine's wall.
Put back together, put back together,
To become triglycerides again.
And then packaged wth some protein,
Cholesterol and lecithin.
Then this package traveled in the lymph
Known as a chylomicron.
Went to the blood then stopped at cells
Dropping triglycerides one by one.
If I'd been active, those triglycerides
Would've been used for energy.
But oh no, I'm the couch potato type.
I like to watch my dear TV.
Oh that butter pat is now body fat.
And the pleasure is long gone.
If I'd have known that's how it ended,
Would've been easier to rub it on.
